What is the procedure for dental implants?

The first step in the dental implant procedure is for the dentist to consult and examine the site in the mouth where the implant is being considered. During this consultation, the dentist will determine if any neighboring teeth need to be removed and which type of bone graft is required.

After the consultation, the patient will need to wait a few months for the site to heal. Once the healing process is complete, the dental implant is placed into the bone, and a healing cap is placed on top of the implant. Visiting the dentist every six months for a check-up is essential to ensure proper healing.

What types of dental implants exist?

There are two main types of dental implants – endosteal implants and all-on-4 implants. Endosteal implants are the most commonly used dental implant option and consist of a titanium metal rod surgically implanted into the jawbone, along with a supporting post specifically designed to secure either a dental crown or a dental bridge. On the other hand, all-on-4 implants are a newer type of dental implant system that supports an entire top or bottom denture on just four implants. Each implant is placed in a strategic location so that the replacement teeth remain steady and secure. The advantage of using four implants is that they promote faster patient recovery and reduce the likelihood of complications resulting from implant failure.
